Before you write

  • Never send your pattern or your recovery words. I do not need them, and I will not ask for them.
  • Milkglass has no accounts and no server, so I cannot look up you, your purchases, or your Drawers. Tell me what you did, what you saw, your iPhone or iPad model, and its iOS version.
  • I cannot open, reset, or recover a Drawer. Nobody can without its pattern or its recovery words.

Answers to common questions

I forgot my pattern

On the pattern screen, choose Use recovery words, enter the 8 words of that Drawer, and draw a new pattern. Milkglass then shows new recovery words. Save them before you go on.

I lost the pattern and the recovery words

That Drawer cannot be opened. Milkglass says so before you confirm the words, because I cannot help afterwards: I hold no copy of your content and nothing that opens it.

Milkglass says “Too many tries”

After several wrong patterns you have to wait before the next try. The wait stays when you close the app or restart the iPhone. Draw again when the time on screen has passed.

I have a new iPhone

Sign in to the same Apple Account, install Milkglass, and draw the pattern of the Drawer. If the Drawer has an iCloud backup, Milkglass asks Restore this Drawer here? If iCloud Keychain is off, choose Use recovery words instead. The new iPhone then backs up that Drawer, and the earlier iPhone stops. Items that had not backed up from the earlier iPhone are not in the backup.

The iCloud backup is paused

Open the Drawer and look at Settings › iCloud backup. It names the cause: no connection, no signed-in iCloud account, or a full iCloud. Your items stay on your iPhone and stay open. The backup goes on when the cause is gone and you open the Drawer.

Purchases, refunds, and the subscription

Apple sells and bills Milkglass Pro. To move a purchase to a new device, open Settings › Milkglass Pro › Restore Purchases. You cancel the yearly subscription in your App Store account settings; deleting the app does not cancel it. For a refund, ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Deleting everything

Settings › Empty this Drawer removes every item of the open Drawer. To remove a backup from iCloud, turn off iCloud backup in that Drawer and choose to delete the backup. Deleting the app removes its content from the device and leaves a backup in your iCloud.
